PROBLEM: AGA & Rayburn cookers losing temperature...

We are finding a high number of cases where the AGA/Rayburn cookers are dropping in temperature within 2-6 weeks of an oil delivery. The current number is around 80 cookers with this particular issue (as of 3rd June 2020).

The problem appears to be situated in the control boxes on the side of the AGA cookers - they have a small slot where all the oil passes through and this slot (on the meter stem) is getting covered in a waxy residue restricting the oil flow to the burner and causing the burner to run low.

This residue appears to be on or in the oil itself, we’re unsure whether it’s arriving with the oil or whether it’s something that’s happening within the tank.

We’ve been advised that general good housekeeping on oil tanks & high grade filters on oil lines are our only options available at present to try and prevent this residue getting to the control boxes. We can’t guarantee this resolves the issues completed but we’re convinced that it will help.

Please see below a list of options and the relevant prices.

The 'AGA-Q' is Born - Turning your old Aga into a BBQ...

Ok, so we've been talking about this idea for 12 months, but it wasn't until yesterday (Wednesday 11th June 10.17am) that work finally began. The inventor, Jack Reynolds (one of the new breed of free thinking engineers) had sown the seed in May 2013 of his dream to turn an Aga Cooker into a BBQ.

In less than 2 hours it had gone from an idea, to minimal working prototype, appropriately named 'The AGA-Q'.

Who would have thought that Unit 2 Hall Farm Workshops would provide a platform for true innovation (we certainly wouldn't). What was produced yesterday, was a transformational product which threatens to revolutionise the 'al fresco dining' world...in Morningthorpe! :)

The vision was clear, the process was lean and the outcome was groundbreaking...The AGA-Q was born!

What better time for a product to enter our world, than the eve of the World Cup 2014 hosted by the flamboyantly cultured South American country of Brazil.

Appropriately, at the heart of Brazilian Cuisine is the 'Churrasqueria', or the BBQ.

Obviously, the only way to see whether this extraordinary design had true function, was to buy some Brazilian Spiced Chicken thighs and some Croatian Spicy Sausage and test the cooking capabilities.

The verdict was unanimous, the 'AGA-Q' had worked successfully, but not wanting to jump to any immediate conclusions we decided to extend the testing to every lunch time for the duration of the World Cup.

As the testing continues the Mark 2 is already in development. To follow the progress either call or follow us on Twitter @davidpointerscs.

Converting your Cooker to Electric - FAQ's (2014)

We thought it was about time we updated you with the latest and most frequent questions coming in from customers regarding the electric conversions. Take a look below...

How much does it cost to convert my Aga to Electric?

Good question. That’s dependant on which conversion kit you choose. There are currently about 4 different kits on the market and the cost varies between £1,900-2,700.

For an exact quote please call us on 01508 499764 or email.

How much does a converted Aga cost to run?

The weekly running costs for an Aga which has been converted to electric firing (without a boiler) is as follows,

2-Oven – £17 -19 per week (More modern conversion kit)

4-Oven – £23 - 28 per week (More modern conversion kit)

* Based on a electricity tariff of 12p per kWh

Can you convert an Aga to 30 amp night storage?

Unfortunately, there are no such kits on the market at the moment to convert an regular oil, gas, solid fuel or 13 amp Aga over to 30 amp. Your only option is to buy a new from AGA themselves.

The 30 amp Night Storage Aga is the only Aga which we don’t work on, although we do get quite a few calls from customers looking for help with them. Engineers who work on them seem to be few and far between so its worth doing some research before you buy one.

What sort of power supply is needed for the 13 amp conversion kit?

The conversions kits we use require a 16 amp supply with twin 13 amp socket or a switched spur (dependant on the kit).

*Note: Please call us with any questions and we can talk directly to your electrician. Normally customers will get the sockets installed low level, either on the right or left hand side of the Aga

How do you need to vent the ovens, if so how?

The electric 13 amp conversions are simple to use and allow greater flexibility in terms of positioning. You no longer require a lined flue/chimney. The only restriction is with the venting of the ovens, where there are 3 options.

1. Vent up the existing chimney

2. Vent out the back of the Aga, if situated on an external wall.

3. Vent into the room with an extractor hood above the Aga cooker.

I hope that has shed some light on a few common questions. If you have any questions regarding the conversions please call or email me in the office on 01508 499764  or davidpointerscs@gmail.com.
